One day Newton was in his garden when he watched an apple fall from a tree to the ground. Inspired by this observation, he discovered the law of gravity, about the gravitational force that attracts all objects in the Universe. Correlating that theory with his laws of motion, Newton explained mathematically the motion of the planets. He also proved that the gravitational force of the Moon and the Sun causes tides in the oceans of the Earth.

ALAN RUELLAN
We live in permanent interdependence with the soil. The Hebrew word adâmah means soil, and is the origin of the word “Adam”, the first man. Soil is the root of humanity. If it disappears, humanity disappears.

DAYS OF WEEK
Monday alone, Tuesday together, Wednesday we walk, when it’s fine weather. Thursday we kiss, Friday we cry, Saturday’s hours seem almost to fly. But of all days in the week we will call Sunday, the rest day, the best day of all.

The planets were around the Sun
The ideas of Copernicus were not accepted in the beginning, but he was one of the pioneers of modern Astronomy.
ISAAC NEWTON
One day Newton was in his garden when he watched an apple fall from a tree to the ground. Inspired by this observation, he discovered the law of gravity, about the gravitational force that attracts all objects in the Universe.
He proved that white light is composed of all the colors of the rainbow.

Newton invented a new kind of telescope, the reflecting telescope.

TUTANKHAMUN
The discovery of the tomb of Tutankhamun, (the young pharaoh) in the Valley of the Kings, in 1922, demonstrated to the world the incredible wealth that surrounded the pharaohs. The tomb was found surprisingly intact. The young king, who died at the age of 19 in the 14th century BC, was protected inside three sarcophaguses, one inside the other. The inner one was an amazing block of pure gold set with jewels. Inside this sarcophagus, the mummy of the pharaoh was covered with a funeral mask, also of pure gold set with jewels. A great quantity of precious objects accompanied the pharaoh, many of the in the form of animals. On the top of the sarcophagus was the epitaph: ‘I have seen the past, I know the future.’
FLEA AND FLY
A flea and a fly in a flue were imprisoned, so what could they do? “Let us fly”, said the flea. “Let us flee”, said the fly. So they flew through a flaw in the flue. (Ogden Nash)
THE CICADA AND THE ANT
An ant was struggling in the sun with a grain of rice that he was carrying to his nest, on a hot summer’s day, when he met a cicada. ‘Hey, Mister Ant’, the cicada said. ‘Why don’t you take it easy, like me? You can work tomorrow’. The ant replied ‘I’m saving food for the cold winter ahead, and if you know what’s good for you, you’ll do the same’, he said. Some months later, winter came and it was very cold. While the ant was comfortable in his nest, the cicada shivered under a pile of leaves. Then the starving cicada begged the ant to give him just a little bit of grain to keep him alive. ‘What were you doing all last summer?’ the ant asked. ‘I sang and sang’, the cicada said. The ant replied laughing as he moved away; ‘You sang all summer, didn’t you? Well, now you can dance all winter’ – In everything beware of negligence, if you want to escape distress and danger.
OUR DIGITAL WORLD

These days it's almost impossible to imagine a world without the Internet, or to overestimate its influence on our daily lives. It's therefore amazing to think that in the 1980s the Internet was only used by a handful of scientists, engineers and postgraduate computer experts.
Email first appeared in 1972 and the first discussion groups started in 1979. Back then there were no computers in people's homes or offices, and anyone who wanted to use the Internet had to learn a very complex system. The Internet first became accessible to the non-scientific community in 1989, when British scientist Tim Berners-Lee invented the World Wide Web (the system which allows us to move from one website to another). The public were finally allowed access to the Internet in 1990, and now, we use ite to do everything from watching a preview of a new film to talking to a friend on the other side of the world.
